Installation How-To:

Winter is approaching, is your driveway safe?

Weather is tough on concrete, and the upcoming fall season is perfect time of year to prep all your concrete surfaces for the intense weather that’s coming. Let Watkins help you be prepared with the following 3 steps for weatherproofing concrete flatwork:

step1_picSTEP 1: Remove Stain & Grease

If the concrete is brand-new,you can skip this step. But if it has old, soaked-in oil & grease stains, they need to come out. The good news is — it’s easy with Consolideck® Oil & Grease Stain Remover. Just pour it on. As Oil & Grease Stain Remover dries, it pulls the embedded contaminants out of the concrete, for easy sweeping up and disposal.

step2_picSTEP 2: General Cleaning

Older concrete, as shown here, needs a good cleaning before weatherproofing. Even new concrete will have a slight patina of dirt, grime and maybe even light oil that can interfere with performance and bond of protective treatments. Consolideck® Cleaner/Degreaser removes that soiling fast and easy.

step3_picSTEP 3: Protect Your Concrete

Once the concrete is clean and dry, a simple spray application of Consolideck® Saltguard® WB or Weather Seal Siloxane WB Concentrate (WB = water based) will stop water from any source — sprinkler to rain to snow melt – from soaking in. When you keep water out, you keep out all the problems water brings with it, like freeze/thaw cycling and the corrosive effects of dissolved de-icing salts.
